Child Life Services

Less alone. Less scared. More empowered.

No family should ever have to navigate illness or loss alone - and they don’t have to! We understand that medical experiences can be challenging for children and their families. Child Life services are designed with play as the focus to promote emotional support, education, and coping strategies.

Jenn provides virtual or in-person (at her location or in your home) services. She serves families located in Lafayette, Acadia, Iberia, At. Landry, St. Martin and Vermillion parishes. Virtual support is provided to families living in other areas.

Preparation

$80 / hour

Preparation sessions are most appropriate for:

  • an upcoming procedure, test or surgery

  • a procedure that your child is anxious about

  • a child needing more or specific education

  • pre-surgical/procedural tours of the medical setting

Procedure Support

$50 (starts at)

Getting a poke or even a breathing treatment can be challenging for a child of any age. Jenn will accompany you and your child to your scheduled procedure to provide real time support. Procedure support can be used for any medical or dental procedure - coping strategies and interventions are tailored specifically to your child's needs and preferences.

Medical Play Therapy

$100 / hour

Medical play therapy is a specialized form of therapeutic play that helps children understand and cope with medical experiences. It promotes a safe and supportive environment where children can explore their feelings, gain knowledge, and build coping skills related to healthcare situations. These opportunities can be especially beneficial for children who have had negative medical experiences or struggle with the impact of medical trauma.

Sibling Support

$50/30 minute session

We recognize that illness affects the whole family and not just the child or teen that receives the diagnosis. Children may struggle with a brother or sister’s illness, though may not feel that their needs are as important as those of their sick sibling. Sibling support sessions are dedicated to empowering, encouraging, and educating siblings of sick children.

Parent Coaching

$50/30 minute session

Support can include but is not limited to:

  • preparing children for visiting an ill parent/loved one

  • preparing children to attend a funeral or viewing

  • talking to children when treatment isn’t working

  • preparing for the death of a loved on

  • talking to children about cancer or terminal illness

  • supporting children when a loved one transitions to hospice/palliative care

School Re-Entry

$105 (flat fee)

A hospitalization, chronic illness, or traumatic event can leave kids feeling nervous about returning to school. It is normal for their peers to have questions or worries related to your child's absence. We can support your child, their classmates and any staff through these challenging situations.

Jenn will visit your child’s classroom to prepare them for your child’s return to school. This service can be individualized to your child’s needs.

Grief & Loss Support

$50/30 minute session

Experiencing the loss of a loved one can be one of the most challenging times for a child and their family. We provide dedicated grief and loss support to help children navigate their emotions, find comfort, and build resilience during this difficult journey. Support can look like individual or family support sessions, age-appropriate education, expressive therapies and activities, and identification of helpful coping strategies.

Diagnosis Education

$100 / hour

A new or existing diagnosis can be confusing and scary to a parent or caregiver. This can be even more true for a child.

These sessions are meant to:

  • teach using language that will make sense to a child or teen

  • use a variety of tools and games to help explain what the diagnosis is and what treatments the doctors may use

Pill Swallowing

$50/30 minute session

Helping children learn to swallow pills can be a challenging but essential skill for managing their health. We offer specialized pill swallowing support designed to make the process easier, less stressful, and more successful for both children and their caregivers.

Each session is tailored to your child’s specific needs, taking into account their age, developmental stage, and previous experiences with pill swallowing.
